you're reading...
EVE Online

How’s the downloading going? I hope you’ve had better connectivity than the Tranquility server of late, our roam came to an abrupt end when we all realised none of us could use our modules. Still it’s not all bad, may aswell do the washing up which is a tad overdue.

So how’s the guide? I hear there are a few issues regarding the format on the iPad where the text is too small but it’s fine when it’s displayed full screen on your desktop or laptop. Unfortunately, it was never intended to be read on the iPhone, Android or any similar product, text is always small on these devices. If you have any suggestions (in which I’ve had a few already) in where it could be improved, please comment on here and we’ll collate all and form some sort of action plan.

Right, dishes await my hand. Fun, fun, fun!

  1. Guide is great! (re)Learning a lot of stuff that I got distracted from. Gives me a whole new drive to play the game and try out some different things. Many thanks!!

  2. Download was slow, but then it’s a huge document. I look forward to reading through it.

Been in EVE for 2.5 yrs now and have just started an Alt and will be taking advantage of the industrial info in the guide.

A request to have it put out in ePub format for iPad/iPhone/iPod? My iPhone can pick it up, but treats it like an image so I have to zoom in and pan it in order to read and see all the beautiful content. I have 40 ea. way on a train everyday which I would love to use to read this edition.

    Thanks for putting it out!

  3. The new version of the guide is great as was ISK 2.0. Unfortunately the file became even larger. Reading it with Evince is not always the best experience possible. Perhaps you could consider a file-per-chapter version to boost page-turn speed.

  4. would like to point out that the learning skills are still mentioned in the trading section. other then that it looks great and has taught me quite a few things.

I would like to see a version formatted for iPhone but that’s not a big deal for me as i don’t normally read PDFs on it.

Now off to start trading and making some isk!

  5. This is the most useful tool ever made for EVE!!!
    Really good job guys!!! :)
On the iPad, the contrast is really too dark, pictures are almost completely black…

  6. Great job with the guide. Proving very useful already.

If I’d recommend anything to help with readability, it would be to save the PDF without “facing pages”, so each 1 page sits alone. This would make scrolling easier when zoomed in to read the text, and probably help greatly when viewing on ipads. Facing pages is needed for print of course, but it’s cumbersome on digital.

For content, it rocks. Only things that have left me asking questions: The section on refining in mining is really short—feels like this could be elaborated on. And I’d love a section in exploration with suggestion on what to DO with your hacking/salvage/arch findings to make it a viable profession.

Keep it up! looking forward to the book!

  7. Oh one more thing to add! The R&D section kicks off really abruptly, diving straight into BPO details. It could use an introductory section, like the other chapters, that explains the broad principles of R&D—what it means to research/dev in EVE, what it’s for, what it allows you to do. It just needs an overview.

  8. While I was downloading I’ve couldn’t fail to notice that it was the LITE version?
When will there be a FULL version ans how much will it cost?

  9. Thanks for all your comments, they’ll all be pooled and thought about.

Yes, this is the lite version and there are plans to release it in hardback. There will be a full version soon which will vastly expand on the topics covered plus some new ones. I don’t want to tell all just yet! In terms of pricing, we just don’t know yet…

  10. I just scanned the document (did get stuck reading tanking section. ;) ) and it looks good… on my 24″ LCD.

On my Gen2 Kindle… Not so great. As Rettic said “Facing pages is needed for print of course, but it’s cumbersome on digital.”. On the kindle you can’t rotate it to change page display, and I just tried, and can’t zoom in on pdf either.

Even though reading it on the Kindle would be awesome, it isn’t a deal breaker.

Keep up the great work! :)

  11. And just after I hit submit, I find the zoom option and rotation options. >_<

Still a bit hard to read and a bit slow (the Kindle is not a i7 with a GeForce 480), but single pages would help a lot in this regard.

    Fly Safe! o7
